Therapy for Addiction and High-Functioning Coping in California
Therapy for adults whose coping habits have started to feel misaligned or counterproductive.
When coping starts to cost you
You're getting everything done, and you still can't relax without something to take the edge off.
Maybe you notice:
-"One glass" has become a nightly routine, or "just one more"
-Promising yourself you'll cut back, then not following through
-Using work, food, spending, scrolling or substances to avoid feeling something
-Hiding or downplaying how much you rely on it
-Feeling shame or worry about it, even while everything looks fine on paper
You don't have to hit "rock bottom" for this to be worth looking at.
Why high-functioning coping is easy to miss
When you're successful and reliable, nobody questions it, and that includes you. Often these habits started as a way to manage stress, anxiety, or old pain. They worked, so they stuck.
The goal isn't to judge the habit. It's to understand what it's doing for you and find other ways to meet that need.
How
I
help
Our work is judgment-free and paced to you. We'll look at what's driving the habit, not just the habit itself.
-Understanding the pattern: what triggers it, and what it's helping you avoid
-Practical skills: for cravings, stress, and difficult emotions
-Trauma-informed care: including EMDR and somatic work, when old experiences are part of the picture
-Your goals: Some clients want to stop entirely, others want to cut back. We'll work toward the goal that fits you.
My approach is Think. Feel. Act. Understand what's happening, feel it safely instead of numbing it, and take steps toward a life you don't need to escape from.
